Great Music ............................................................................................................... Great Artistes
ROCHDALE MUSIC SOCIETY [REGISTERED CHARITY No. 511522] was founded as a charitable organisation in 1979 for the promotion of classical music. Since then it has featured many internationally renowned orchestra and artistes, including:
The Halle Orchestra, The Amadeus Quartet, The London Mozart Players, Segovia, Imogen Cooper The Guildhall String Ensemble ,The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and Steven Isserlis.
The committee members who arrange, promote and organise the concerts are all volunteers drawing on their professional and business experience. All the artistes, without exception, have expressed their admiration for the Society's professional approach to concert management and their appreciation of the warm reception they have received from the audience.
The annual series consists of 6 concerts given between October and May.
The concerts have received excellent reviews in the national, regional and local press; and some concerts have been recorded or broadcast live by the BBC.
Rochdale is well situated in Lancashire on the M62 motorway. This brings in a wide audience, and the Society has subscribers from as far afield as the North Midlands and the Lake District.
The concerts in the 2008 - 2009 season will be held mostly in the Heywood Civic Centre, Church Street, Heywood, Rochdale, which has a free car park, a licensed bar and private entertainment areas for the use of the sponsors; and they and their special guests are usually able to meet the artists at an informal after-concert buffet.
